Mouth cancer action month is a charity campaign organised by the Oral Health Foundation. The campaign raises awareness of mouth cancer. By spotting mouth cancer early, there is a better chance of beating it.
Be Mouth Aware
Signs and symptoms of mouth cancer include:
- Mouth Ulcers that don’t heal
- White or red patches in the mouth
- Persistent sore throat
- Bad breath
- Pain or difficulty swallowing
- Unexplained weight loss
- Lumps in the mouth, head or neck
- Speech problems

Incidences of mouth cancer
- 10,825 people in the UK are diagnosed with mouth cancer a year
- Equates to one person in the UK diagnosed with mouth cancer every hour
- Mouth cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the UK
- 81% of mouth cancers are diagnosed in those over the age of 55

- Smoking
- Smokeless tobacco
- Alcohol
- Human papillomavirus (HPV)
- Environmental tobacco smoke
- Infections
- Family history
